With three Best of Class winners in the running, WaterCraft
World announced its 2008 WaterCraft of the Year in Newport Beach, Calif.,
during the Affinity Media Powersports Awards.

With an emphasis on three primary criteria—innovation,
market appeal and long-term impact on the industry—the 2008 Watercraft
of the Year award was presented to Yamaha for its FX Cruiser Super High
Output (SHO).
Among a distinguished fleet that included Sea-Doo's RXT-X (Best of Class
Performance) and Kawasaki's STX-15F (Best of Class Introductory), Yamaha
led the way in all three criteria.
That a variation of Yamaha's FX SHO captured the award should come as
little surprise. After all, the machine has already compiled honors
from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Innovation
Award to stand-out mentions in magazines from Popular Mechanics to Men's
Health. Add WaterCraft World to the list of those singing its praises.
From pioneering the use of nanotechnology in its hull design to the
development of digital throttle that enabled the industry's first cruise
control as well as a no-wake mode, Yamaha's R&D department was ahead
of the game. Even the supercharged SHO engine is unique. It's the largest
displacement ever offered in a PWC, yet surprisingly lightweight and
compact.
Why the Cruiser? It makes an already fantastic boat that much better,
elevating driver and passenger comfort to the next level, without hindering
the boat's gutsy performance.
