> 9th Jet Waves World Championship - French Final
09/13/2007

In the last day of the World Freeride that happened
in the three days of the Brazilian Independence holiday, September 07-09,
the couple of French pilots Pierre Maixent and Gil Beurnier were the
protagonists of the final in the main category in the Brazilian stage
of the 3rd World Championship IFWA of Freeride, Jet Waves. For the second
followed time Pierre Maixent won the Jet Waves.
The city of Itajaí was the headquarters for the
first time the Brazilian stage of World Tour of Freeride Jet Ski. This
was the ninth edition of Jet Waves, that began in Florianópolis,
in the beach of Santinho, it went by the Praia Mole, in the same city,
it was at the Praia da Vila in the last two years and starting from
this year it will be organized in Itajaí, starting from a partnership
well happened to the City hall of the City and the Government of the
State, and patronage of the Malhas Malwee, Klabin and Yamaha, besides
support of the net Pacheco Automóveis, ProNautica Jet Ski, ID
Models, Academia Wave, Put Dalçoquio and Jovem Pan. The event
was organized by Marcelo "Tchello" Brandão and for
the company Interlog and had the supervision of IFWA and of FEMOAESC.
For the happiness of everybody involved there was a
rare combination in these three days of competition, sun and good waves,
and the public came to the beach, this happy combination allotting the
Canto do Morcego, in the Brave Beach, during the three days of the competition.
Friday and Saturday waves of one to two meters were constant, the left
of the Canto do Morcego, in the Brave Beach is famous, as we came to
know, on Sunday the sea lowered a little, but the waves continued constant
and enough for an event of this load.
After the accomplishment of the 1/8 final on Sunday
morning, 9th Jet Waves proceeded soon after the pause of the lunch for
the ¼ finals with some surprises. To highlight French Gil Beurnier's
victory on American Ross Champion, second place in the championship,
the good acting of the young revelations of the national freerides,
Leandro Vieira, Tiago Geitens and Bruno Jacob that expired and moved
forward in the competitions, and the defeat of three times champion
of Jet Waves Ivo Sehn for other great French pilot Aurelien Mejean,
winner of the stage of Spain of World Tour. It still deserves note the
acting of the Douglas Carvalho; same being defeated in his battery with
south-African Jeremy Philips, Douglas played one of the great moments
of Jet Waves of this year with the sensational maneuver that accomplished
a double back-flip, sensational. Other Brazilian pilots had good acting,
but they didn't pass of the octaves, as André Martins, carioca
Leonardo Caldoncelli, and the young revelation Alexandre Buneder.
In the ¼ finals the tension of the competition
grew, the disputes man-man in the batteries didn't allow hesitate, who
lost would be out. Gil Beurnier ridded well again and he won the World
Champion Brazilian of Freestyle A. Lenzi. It was a fantastic battery,
minutes of incredible aerial acrobatics of the two, but French was the
best. In the sequence that the surprise of the Championship was Leandro
Vieira was considered the pilot youth Tiago Geitens that came with excellent
performance until that moment. The South-African Jeremy Philips surfing
very well got the necessary points to beat French Aurelien that had
won the Brazilian Ivo Sehn, and the World Twice Champion Pierre Maixent
finished with the pilot's hope from Bahia Bruno Jacob to win in the
battery.
In the semifinals the public saw as two Frenches were
very strong on the weekend. Gil surfed very well again and to accomplish
maneuvers and very high and complex flights and he won Leandro Vieira.
Pierre Maixent, with a respect acting and with a dynamics of maneuvers
that explained for himself why he is twice world champion and beat the
south-African Jeremy Philips and two Frenches moved forward for a unpublished
French final in Jet Waves's history.
Very concentrated Pierre returned to pilot worthy of
one of the best freeriders of the history of the jet ski world he still
counted with the luck to see Gil Beurnier to face problems with his
jet ski. At the end of the battery nobody in the beach needed to wait
the announcement of the official result to know who had won the 9th
Jet Waves, it was already clear, own Pierre already left the water commemorating
the victory and an important step a lot in the conquest of the World
Title of 2007. With the victory in Brasil, Pierre proceeds for the last
stage of the Championship World, next month in United States, with 19
advantage points on the two pilots tied in the second placement, own
Gil Beurnier and American Ross Champion.
In the dispute for the third place of the category the
south-African Jeremy Philips won Brazilian Leandro Vieira.
Sit-Down - The category Sit-down, didn't
present surprises. Once again the eight times World Champion Jimmy Visser
won. As last year Jimbo, as it is known, he faced French Pierre Maixent
in the final; Pierre and Brazilian Leandro Vieira are the only ones
to compete in the two categories.
In spite of Pierre Maixent to ride so well with the
jet ski with bank as he ride in the jet ski stand up, Jimbo is almost
unbeatable. Surfing easily living everyone astonished with his ability,
Jimbo got several times the waves off 1 to 2 meters of the Brave Beach,
and he surfed even close to the sand, trying to insert small tubes,
besides. With aerials, re-entry, back-flips, tunôs, among other
maneuvers, Jimbo assured more a victory in Jet Waves; to remind that
of whole participations in the Championship of Freeride accomplished
in Brazil, Jimbo only lost an only time, in 2003, for his own son.
In the dispute for the third place of the category
Brazilian Leandro Vieira returned the occur well, conquering the third
placement when overcoming American Jerry Jones.
