> All Fragoso's enthusiasm in Bali
14/09/2006
The IFWA International Freeride Watercraft Association's
vice president, Luis Centeno Fragoso, from Lisboa/Portugal, was in Bali
Free Ride, in September 2nd and 3rd 2006. He tells to INEMA team what
thought about this big event.
This was the first IFWA's competition in Asian continent,
so some difficulties were bigger, like transport of the jets to that
place. "With IFWA and local organization's collaborations, the
difficulties were overcome", affirms. Like this was first
event in that area, has a lot of expectative and the final result was
very positive.
Fragoso explains that IFWA Portuguese didn't participate
directly for the event and his participation was like association's
vice president and like a judge. For him, the most difficulty
in organization was the logistic part: "For example the
jet's transport until the competition's place", believes.
Bali Island offered a big reception for all pilots and
organizers: "It's a fantastic place, with a friendly and
hospitable people. There are some temples and sanctuaries that created
a special mysticism in the island." Moreover, in Bali's
streets there were a lot of posters and banners called to competition.

The structure offers to riders were the guest house,
like all local support to carry the jets from hotel to beach where the
event's place were. All around the competition and the opening ceremony
were fantastic. "The waves was so good, too, what help a lot the
show."
The waves had about 2 meters in the morning
Saturday and during the afternoon it's grow up, some pilots
suffer injuries. In finals, waves had about 2,5 meters, what provided
a big spectacle in Runabout with James and Jimmy Visser or in the jet
with Pierre Maxent and Gil Beurnier.
Your experience like competition's judge wasn't very
difficult, because big people of Free Ride were in the jury. "Between
them, the myth Randy Laine, that became easier my job", says. The
technique and maneuvers' courage are the things that he more judge in
a competition.
Finals pilot's determination to stand up the
big waves was the thing that Fragoso more paid attention. He
detaches the riders' high technical level: "The best around the
world, exception Frederico Bufachi, were there!"
The relationship between riders was great: "It's
the Free Ride's spirit", defines. The satisfaction in surf and
jump the waves, like as see the best pilot's technique are his big gratification
for Fragoso participate in this event. He ends remembering that this
competition happened in Bali, shows a new door open to sport.
