> Randy Laine, the father of Freeride

01/12/2006

Who is with Randy?

From Carlsbad, Califórnia, United States, Randy Laine tells how his first contact with Jet Ski was and why he is considered one of the Freeride Jetskiing and Tow-in surf's pioneer.

It is not by chance Randy Laine is known as "the Mayor". When the subject is related to the water, he's unbeatable. The rider is considered one of the greatests, being in the top, side by side with the best and the most adept ones. Disputed by magazines, cinematographic productions, aquatic teams and special events, Laine loads a stuffed luggage of experience.

Pointed as one of the Freeride's pioneers, Laine rode a Jet Ski, for the first time, in 1974 and he started competing five years after his preview. He?s favorite place to train is at Oceanside, California; however, the beach that more pleases him is in Pipeline, Hawaii:

"I chose Freeride because it's very exciting and always different in the waves", he reveals.

Freeride events are his favorite one. Although not to have participated of 7th World Jet Waves Championship 2005, with the final stage in Brazil, from 25 to 27 of November, in Villa's beach, Imbituba / SC, Laine says he wants to come to the country:

"Brazil is a great country", he affirms.

For being one of the Freeride's pioneers, Laine had very few sponsors, beyond this common difficulty to all the athletes, the sport category still wasn't recognized. Being his own trainer, he confesses the maneuver that more flame his attention is the Superman (taking both feet off behind you while in the air).

Attracted by the sport and his loving with the sea, Laine has already participated of 40 competitions and he's conquered seven headings. The biggest championship, according to him, was Redondo Offshore Race. However, the great rider's challenge is to ride the biggest waves (72 feet, 22m) in Stand-up:

"The best moment was riding a big wave 24 meters high", the Italian food admirer, which also doesn't resist to a peppered Mexican dish, counts.

Sponsored by great names as RedBull, Yamaha, Pro-Tec, Hydro-Turf, Skat-Trak, Torço, Oakley, Reef e Slippery, Laine says the secret is ride in the surf every day.
